Built by people who’ve been there.
Moonlight is made by two people in Berlin who know the walk home.
The worst part of a bad night is often what comes after. You get home and you do not know what to do next, or who to tell.
We know the feeling.
We have walked home with keys between our fingers.
We have second-guessed that feeling in the stomach.
We have wished someone, anyone, was nearby.
Moonlight is our answer to that. A map made by people who know the feeling, with people behind it who get it.
Why “Moonlight”?
The moon is the light that is already there when you walk home.
And to moonlight is to take on a second job. Here, everyone has the same one: looking out for the next person.
What we believe
Informed, with the facts.
The map shows what was reported, where and when. People live everywhere on this map; the decision is always yours.
Patterns, not single nights.
One report is one bad evening. Ten reports about the same person are a pattern, and a pattern can be changed.
The question goes to the right person.
Nobody here asks what you wore. The questions go to the person who did it.
Together.
You should close the app calmer than you opened it.
Gotong royong.
There is an Indonesian word for it, and one of our founders brought it with her. When nobody else acts, we act together.
The founders
Two founders.
Both came to Berlin in 2017, one from Amsterdam, one from Paris. Both got tired of hearing “be careful”.
Co-founder and CEO
Firly
Firly came to Berlin in 2017, after six years in Amsterdam and a term in Paris. She spent five years in start-ups working on go-to-market and partnerships. In 2024 a UX design bootcamp gave her the way of working behind Moonlight: start from people, listen first, ask what they need rather than what they say, and find the point where that meets what a business needs and what technology can do.
Co-founder and CTO
Augustin
Augustin came to Berlin in 2017, by way of Paris and Karlsruhe. He has been an engineer his whole working life, six of those years on the braking systems of high-speed trains. That work gave him the eye for detail he brings to Moonlight: assume something will fail, find it before it does, test until you are sure, and write it down so the next person can check.
In Firly’s words
Moonlight started with me, and with the people around me.
As a migrant in Berlin, I have been harassed and assaulted in public more than once. Every time, the questions came back the same: what was I wearing, why was I out, had I been drinking. The person who did it was asked nothing. I was asked everything.
I went looking for help in online groups. Some people there were kind. What I wanted was simple: to know what to do, to know my rights, and to find my people.
So I built the thing I wished existed. So the next person can decide, with the facts.

Who it is for
For everyone who has ever looked over their shoulder on the way home.
18 and over. Every member is verified once by an identity-check partner. Moonlight never receives or stores a picture of your ID.
